More than a century ago, winery founder Don Melchor Concha y Toro is said to have kept a prized collection of wines locked away in his personal cellar, protected behind a wrought iron gate—only to discover that bottles were mysteriously disappearing as word of his exceptional wines spread throughout the town. Determined to safeguard his treasure, he turned to local folklore, planting rumors of strange nighttime occurrences and a sinister presence within the cellar. Fueled by imagination and fear, the legend of the “Devil’s Cellar” was born, giving rise to Casillero del Diablo—a name that would grow far beyond its origins to become one of Chile’s most iconic and internationally recognized wine brands.
