The name “4X Oaked” comes from the blending process, which involves two double-oaked KSBW barrels and two double-oaked KSRW barrels in each 4-barrel batch. Adding to the uniqueness is the “Proofed In Barrel” technique, where the whiskey is proofed at 95 proof during its second barrel fill, rather than in tanks. This allows the whiskey to mature in its final proof within the barrel for an additional 12-14 months, resulting in a fuller, more nuanced spirit.
