Medium garnet-purple in color with black cherries, blackberry preserves, spice box and balsamic notes wafting from the glass with a faint hint of dusty earth, the 2016 Lespault-Martillac is medium-bodied, firm and chewy in the mouth, offering a good core of black fruit with an earthy finish.Pronounced vanilla and full black cherries on the nose. Quite a generous, fleshy wine for this appellation in 2016. Rather soft tannins add a touch of warmth at the finish, balancing the cool acidity. Good length and harmony at the moderately dry finish. A blend of 70 per cent merlot and 30 per cent cabernet sauvignon. JS 93 ptsFocused, with a mix of lightly steeped cherry and plum fruit, mixed with dried anise and singed apple wood flavors. Has a light plum skin edge on the finish. WS 92pts
